WEST PIER — HERON ARRIVES, DOES NOT LEAVE; INTENTIONS OPAQUE

A heron has been observed at the west pier for the third consecutive day. The Clerk is asking polite questions. The west pier is, frankly, unsettled.

THE LILY PADS — THE OLD LILY PAD, FAMOUSLY RELIABLE, HAS SUNK

After many seasons of service, the central lily pad of the southern waters has gone under. It was broad, it was flat, and it will be missed.

THE SHALLOWS — THE CHANNEL SPRINT RUN; LEADER RECORDED, BARELY

The quarterly race down the east channel concluded on Thursday. Results are disputed. Times are approximate. The coot is separately aggrieved.

EAST SHORE — MALLARD CONTESTS REED-BED CENSUS, PAPERWORK MISLAID

A senior drake has filed a complaint regarding his household's listing; the Clerk is looking into it; a heron may be involved.

THE OLD WILLOW — GOSLING RECITAL DELIVERED, AUDIENCE MOSTLY STILL

The spring gosling assembly performed eleven pieces under the Old Willow to a forbearing crowd; the programme was, in the end, observed.

POND-SIDE — BREAD PRICES REACH NEW HIGH, CORRESPONDENT OUTRAGED

The crust inflation index reaches a six-month peak, the Subcommittee offers no comment, and three readers write in at length.

NORTH BANK — FOG DESCENDS ON NORTH BANK, PREENING VISIBILITY POOR

An unseasonable mist closes the reed beds to all but the most determined waterfowl; the Warden advises patience, and an instrument goes missing.
